Your Truth, My Truth, or the Truth?

Let’s start with some questions…

Does gravity exist whether you believe in it or not?

Does it sometimes rain whether you want it to or not?

Does an instrument produce sound waves whether you see them or not?

And the age old, does a tree that falls in the forest make a sound whether someone hears it or not?

The fact is, things exist in reality whether we believe in them, hear them, see them, etc. Our subjective views of things do not change their objective truths.

The idea that there is no objective truth is a self defeating statement.

The claim that there is no objective truth is either an objective claim that therefore already proves itself wrong. Or it is a subjective claim and therefore just someone’s opinion. As Christians, we need to recognize that there is objective truth and more importantly Truth with a capital “T.” We should reject the notion that everybody can have their own truth and live our lives with God’s Truth.

This can be difficult in today’s post-modern society. At times in our history we have sought to understand objective truth through religion, science, thought. etc. In today’s society we seem to have abandoned understanding truth for instead just delighting in our own. This will eventually prove fruitless because as we explored above, things exist in reality whether we believe they do or not. Let’s help ourselves and our kids to recognize that truth is real and exists and we are called as children of God to live in His Truth.
